Herbalife gets global media attention with L.A. Galaxy jersey

The arrival of soccer star David Beckham to the Los Angeles Galaxy Major League Soccer team has helped draw global media attention to the Herbalife name, featured prominently on the new team jersey. From television stations around the world broadcasting Beckham’s press conference to the Herbalife name appearing on his jersey on the cover of Sports Illustrated®*, to Michael O. Johnson being interviewed live on CNBC®, this event has put the Herbalife brand in front of hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Coverage of the Galaxy press conference was carried in major newspapers, online outlets and magazines, while TV stations flashed the team jersey, prominently displaying the Herbalife name.

Herbalife was featured in an article on the success of the company in the Investor`s Business Daily, “Nutritional Supplement Seller Feeling Much More Fit These Days” (June 16, 2006 edition of investors.com). Our gains in sales and earnings, sports sponsorships, product launches including Liftoff™ and NouriFusion®, and other company developments were covered.

The article quoted Herbalife CEO Michael O. Johnson about the strength of our Independent Distributor network. “Herbalife relies on its Distributors and their personal stories. `Some of our (people) have lost 10 to as much as 100 pounds,` Johnson said.” “That Distributor can say, `It worked for me and was fabulous. Herbalife-sponsored junior champion Olly Freeman wins the Blenheim Triathlon

“Meet the sport`s rising star—Olly Freeman” was the title of the Oxford Times article featuring an in-depth interview with Herbalife-sponsored junior champion triathlete Olly Freeman.

The article, which points out that Olly represents Herbalife`s first major sports sponsorship in the UK, was written just prior to the Male Elite Race at the much-anticipated Blenheim Triathlon, which Olly went on to win.

Herbalife-sponsored triathlete Olly Freeman profiled in London`s Evening Standard

World Junior Champion Triathlete Olly Freeman, who is signed to a nutrition sponsorship with Herbalife, was the subject of a January 2006 article in London`s Evening Standard (circulation: 340,000).

The story, “Brilliant Olly is our brightest hope,” discusses Olly`s incredible young career, his mastery of all legs of the triathlon—running, swimming and cyclingand his hopes for Olympic glory. Wearing his Team Herbalife gear in all of his races, Olly will be under Herbalife sponsorship through 2008.

UK Health & Fitness Magazine

The April issue of the UK`s Health & Fitness (circulation: 100,000) features the inspiring story of Jane Clark, a 43-year-old Herbalife Independent Distributor who competed in the 2005 Michelob ULTRA London Triathlon as part of Team Herbalife.

The story explains that Jane, a complete novice when she began training, used the support of Team Herbalife, a training partner and Herbalife products like ShapeWorks™ shakes to prepare for the race, training regularly for six months. On race day, Jane`s dedication paid off: she finished the race in an impressive two hours, six minutes.

Herbalife is featured along with other leading companies that are using sports and fitness sponsorships to promote their brand in the International Herald Tribune, "Follow the money and it leads to sports" (March 30, 2006).


The company`s sponsorships of volleyball in Japan, a triathlon in France and dragon boat races in Hong Kong are featured, along with a quote from Herbalife President and Chief Operating Officer Greg Probert, who said, "If we were to do classic advertising on television, you`re getting your name out there, but it lacks that emotional connection of getting our distributors involved with us."

Johnson was interviewed for an article on CEOs who participate in triathlons in U.S. News & World Report, “Racing to the Top?— Try the Triathlon” (January 27, 2006 special edition of usnews.com). This is a widely known business/lifestyle publication.


“Michael Johnson, 51, the CEO of Herbalife, observes that ‘everyone knows at least one of the skills in this. So it`s more inclusive than running or biking alone might be.
